Whether you've followed her storied Broadway career or Emmy-winning recurring role as Alec Baldwin's mother on "30 Rock," to know Elaine Stritch is to love her. Stritch is known as much for her big brassy vocals in musicals like Sondheim's "Company" as for her frequently deployed acerbic wit. In this film, director Chiemi Karasawa captures both the beloved public personality and Stritch's unseen private life, glimpsing tender musings about her late husband, John Bay, a long struggle with sobriety and the indignities of aging. Stritch rejects the saccharine, however, showcasing a vitality of spirit even in the most fragile moments of this wonderful documentary tribute.
